Be Thankful

by Geunyoung C.

We shiver, cold and wet
We place a hand on the frozen wall
That divides us from one another
The strange emotion…
The emotion of being afraid, and lost
We want it to end.

Then we see those,
Far off worse than us
We start to feel sympathy
We start to feel sorry
The very feeling we felt for ourselves,
But we realize that they don’t want pity
They don’t need it
They have love
They have each other
And they are determined to be satisfied
To be happy with those two things

So, think,
Think about our lives
The life we live in
I admit it’s overwhelming
It’s beyond our imagination
But its time to be thankful
Thankful for what we have
Thankful for our family
Our friends
And yes, even your very dear teddy bear

It’s time to destroy that frozen wall
Warm it
Melt it
It might seem impossible
It might seem neverending
Maybe it’s too thick

It seems as if you reached the end,
But it’s still out
But don’t give up
Don’t go down
Keep warming the wall,
Use the light within you
Use it to shine the power

Remember that the light is our happiness
Our hope
Our faith
Our love
And you can never have too much of that

Thankful for things you never thought about
Thankful for every little thing you see
Don’t wait until Thanksgiving
Be thankful every day,
even though it seems impossible.
Trust me, there is something to be thankful for
You might not believe it, but rack your brains
Dig through your experience
Be thankful that you are living in this historical event
Why? Because you will be remembered
As one of the millions of children who experienced this event
Memorize it
Engrave it
And remember,
Be thankful
