Into Another World
by Iris P.
Hi! My name is Lin and I’m a shapeshifter. I live in an orphanage in Kula. I lost my parents at age 4. I am now 16.
I was sitting on my bed when it happened. I looked up out of the window in the large room where all of us girls slept. Perched on the windowsill was a beautiful bluebird. It looked like it was in pain so I went over to the window and opened it up. The morning breeze swept in and I shivered. I picked up the bird and brought it inside to my bed. I put it in a shoebox and went to close the window. I was glad that everyone else was out at the river. I stayed back because I had homework to do. I closed the window and turned back to my bed. I saw that the bird had gotten out of the box and was sitting on my headboard. Afraid that it would fall, I rushed over and set it back down on the floor. I sat down to look at it and suddenly there, in place of the bird, was a little girl. I screamed as any normal person would. She put her hand over my mouth to calm me down.
“Wh-who are you?” I asked after she had put her hand down. “I am Marie,” she said. “What are you doing here?” I said as I slowly scooched back. “And how did you do that?” “ I’m a shapeshifter. My world is in danger and I am searching for more people like me,” she said as she stood up to look around. “What do you want with me?” I asked. “Well of course you are a shapeshifter!”
