My name is…

Journal Entry #1 9-9-2020

My name is Asani Naki Khenti Ka-Re and I absolutely love it! Asani means rebellious in Swahili and not the bad way. It just means that I can change the world into a better place. Naki means the first girl to be born in the family. Naki is from Ghana. I was my parents’ first baby girl and they said I was a gift from our ancestors. Khenti means she who offers. Khenti is anceint from Kemet (Egypt). I love giving to people. So my middle name really describes me. I am a giver not a taker. I love giving to people who are less fortunate than me. It makes me feel good that I filled someone’s bucket! Ka-Re means the spirit of the sun. Ka means spirit and Re means sun. My parents said I have beautiful sun-kissed skin that’s why my skin glows. Ka-Re is from ancient Kemet also. My name just flows off the tip of your tongue. My dad said he gave me my name. He has all of these books full of African names and it took him a while to come up with a perfect name for his baby girl! He also told me he did not want me to have a slave last name like he used to have and I thought that was super powerful.
